Limitation + Force = Success (에너지 효율 제고) :: 2007/03/23 00:01

Sense of limt

손자.. 그 위대함... :: 2007/03/22 00:05

Self-directed warfare

1. The polarity strategy  (Declare war on your enemies)
Don't depend on the enemy not coming, depend rather on being ready for him.

2. The guerrilla-war-of-the-mind  (Do not fight the last war)
Thus one's victories in battle cannot be repeated - they take their form in response to inexhaustibly changing circumstances.

4. The death-ground strategy  (Create a sense of urgency and desperation)
Without a way to retreat, an army fight with double or triple the spirit it would have on open terrain.

Organizational warfare

6. The controlled-chaos strategy  (Segment your forces)
What you aim for in strategy is shih, a position of potential force - the position of a boulder perched precariously on a hilltop, say, or of a bowstring stretched taut.  A tap on the boulder, the release of the bowstring, and potential force is violently unleashed.  The boulder or arrow can go in any direction; it is geared to the actions of the enemy.  What matters is not following preordained steps but placing yourself in shih and giving yourself options.

7. Morale strategies  (Transform your war into a crusade)
The way(道) means inducing the people to have the same aim as the leadership, so that they will share death and share life, without fear of danger.

Defensive warfare

8. The perfect-economy strategy  (Pick your battles carefully)
When the weapons have grown dull and spirits depressed, when our strength has been expended and resources consumed, then others will take advantages of our exhaustion to arise. Then even if you have wise generals you cannot make things turn out well in the end.

9. The counterattack strategy  (Turn the tables)
However desperate the situation and circumstances, don't despair. When there is everything to fear, be unafraid. When surrounded by dangers, fear none of them. When without resources, depend on resourcefulness. When surprised, take the enemy itself by surprise.

10. Deterrence strategy  (Create a threatening presence)
When opponents are unwilling to fight with you, it is because they think it is contrary to their interests, or because you have misled them into thinking so.

11. The non-engagement strategy  (Trade space for time)
To remain disciplined and calm while waiting for disorder to appear amongst the enemy is the art of self-possession.

Offensive warfare

13. The intelligence strategy  (Know your enemy)
He who knows the enemy and himself will never in a hundred battles be at risk.
Thus the reason the farsighted ruler and his superior commander conquer the enemy at every move, and achieve successes far beyond the reach of the common crowd, is advance knowledge. Such knowledge cannot be had from ghosts and spirits, educed by comparison with past events, or verified by astrological calculations. It must come from people - people who know the enemy's situation.

14. The blitzkrieg strategy  (Overwhelm resistance with speed and suddenness)
War is such that the supreme consideration is speed. This is to take advantage of what is beyond the reach of enemy, to go by way of routes where he least expects you, and to attack where he has made no preparations.

15. Forcing strategy  (Control the dynamic)
One who excels at warfare compels men and is not compelled by others.

17. The divide-and-conquer strategy  (Defeat them in detail)
In antiquity those who were referred to as excelling in the employment of the army were able to keep the enemy's forward and rear forces from connecting; the many and few from relying on each other; the upper and lower ranks from trusting each other; the troops to be separated, unable to reassemble, or when assembled, not to be well-ordered.

20. The ripening-for-the-sickle strategy  (Maneuver them into weakness)
So to win a hundred victories in a hundred battles is not the highest excellence; the highest excellence is to subdue the enemy's army without fighting at all.

Unconventional warfare

23. Misperception strategy
(Weave a seamless blend of fact and fiction)

24. The ordinary-extraordinary strategy  (Take the line of least expectation)
In general, in battle one engages the enemy with the orthodox and gains victory through the unorthodox.... The unorthodox and the orthodox mutually produce each other, just like an endless cycle. Who can exhaust them?
- Work outside the enemy's experience
- Unfold the extraordinary out of the ordinary
- Act crazy like a fox
- Keep the wheels in constant motion

31. The inner-front strategy  (Destroy from within)
The worst military policy is to assault walled cities...If your commander, unable to control his tempers, sends your troops swarming at the walls, your casualties will be one in three and still you will not have taken the city.... Therefore the expert in using the military subdues the enemy's forces without going to battle, takes the enemy's walled cities without launching an attack.

Flow
